Afghan Women: Hope and Optimism | International Womens Day Panel

  • Los Angeles, CA USA (map)

Since the swift takeover of the Taliban in Afghanistan things have changed drastically for women. On International Women’s Day, Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall takes on the issue of women in Afghanistan with an exceptional panel of guests to discuss the ways in which lives of women have been impacted by the unfolding events, and what we as a community – local and global – can do to help.

California is home to more than 30,000 Afghan refugees who have made this state their home over the past 20 years. With several hundred Afghans estimated to have resettled in greater Los Angeles, we believe Angelenos can play a part in welcoming Afghans as well as advocating for better US Afghan policy.

Join us for this important livestream to highlight the challenges Afghan women face as they abandon decades of hope and progress and capitulate to the reality of the Taliban. Both in resettlement and in reshaping their Afghan lives, women are facing unprecedented challenges.
